Hopeful and Prayerful
I received a call today from my midwife at the birth center. She said my glucose test from last week came back high. I need to follow this high-carb diet for 3 days, fast and then take a more comprehensive 3-hour test on Tuesday for gestational diabetes…
I eat healthier now than I did with my preschooler and I was fine. I am hoping and praying that this is a routine test and everything is fine.
I just thought of something. I wonder if the fact that I’ve been drinking G.atorade like it’s going out of style has anything to do with this. I will bring it up when I go on Tuesday.

i drank gatorade with my 4th. i would get the clear one in the little bottles and freeze them just right and have a slushee!! they were the best.
hope its not diabetes. that would suck. thoughts are with you and baby!

Sorry to hear this Safa, but I’m sure it will all be fine. Sometimes depending on when you last ate and what you ate prior to their test, your glucose level might be elevated. Hopefully it was simply a random high post-meal sugar level. If not, there is very good treatment available for gestational diabetes, and the focus would be on your diet and making sure that the baby doesn’t gain excess weight as babies born to mothers with gestational diabetes typically are large at birth (>8 pounds). Also, even if you are diagnosed with gestational diabetes, the condition typically ends with the end of pregnancy and usually does not “convert” to ongoing diabetes following delivery. I’ll keep you in my prayers.

Gatorade, being pure sugar, probably doesn’t help! My test was positive too, but then my retest was normal. Before the first I had a fruit smoothie, a large bowl of strawberries and an orange juice so what you eat definitely affects the results. Good luck!!
