Countdown and other random stuff

I am feeling the anxiety of the impending arrival of my baby. I had been very elated, happy, and excited as the months turned into weeks. Now that the weeks have turned into days, I am so nervous you would think I didn’t already have a child! My due date is next Friday. However, b/c of the gestational diabetes, the consulting doctor wants the midwives to “help” me deliver by mid-week…definitely not a day beyond my due date. If I go beyond, I’ll have to deliver at the hospital as opposed to the birth center. So…on Tuesday, my midwife at the center will give me some primrose and castor oil. This should speed things along. We’ll see. On the home front, we are pretty much ready. I have everything put together. The only things we don’t have are gender specific clothes…will it be a boy or girl??? I honestly don’t have any idea one way or the other. I kinda have a feeling it’s another boy though..we’ll see.

This past Friday was my last day of work. It was supposed to be Wednesday but you know how that is… Anyway, some people are so inconsiderate. I did my best to tie up loose ends on my cases before I left, and still gave them 2 extra days. One co-worker asked if I could be available to testify at a hearing this Friday??? I’m like, “look, I’ve written extensive reports on all my cases…if you need to, just disclose my reports”! Two of my coworkers really got on my last nerve. They are so self-centered! I’m wobbling around the office and they keep acting all anxious and making comments about the fact that I’ll be gone for so long, what are we going to do….I told one of them, I’m not working from home so you can email me with general questions but I AM NOT WORKING FROM HOME!!!!!! One of them called my cell phone this afternoon about a case he was trying to settle. When I answered, he went right into his issue and didn’t even ask how I was until he picked up on how dry my rely was. He then wished me well and all that crap. Whateva! What we do ain’t rocket science or brain surgery…they’ll survive. I am planning to enjoy all of my 7 months of leave without thinking about those people!

My sister in-law gave my stepdaughter a cell phone and then couldn’t understand why my husband called her upset that she did it without consulting him. My stepdaughter is 16 and has been messing up in school and at home. We moved her in with us in January to go to school in our county since DC schools leaves A LOT to be desired. We figured she would be more focused here with us since we live a much more contained lifestyle than her mom…no tv, music, hanging out, boys, etc. Anyway, she goes home to her mom (who’s not muslim) on weekends and every school break. She’s not missing out on much. Anyway, my sister in-law got irate and accused my husband of being jealous that his daughter was closer to her and he was out of the loop where she is concerned. Anyway, she has issues and sees my stepdaughter as more of a girlfriend than a niece. I just thought her reaction was weird. She didn’t know whether she was on restrictions because of her behavior or anything. You just don’t do things like that. I could see if it were a pair of shoes or something. My husband is letting her keep the phone but we take it at night b/c we’ve caught her up at like midnight or later talking to people on our phone and then can’t get to school on time! We’ve since installed Call Gate on our phone where you need a pin to make calls to numbers (except her mom and other essential people).

I have a car I use mainly for work. We have a minivan but I don’t drive it to work in DC. Now that I’m on maternity leave, people are coming out of the woodwork asking to borrow my car since they know it’s mainly sitting until January. I’ve been home less than a week and already let 2 people use my car over 4 days! I am sometimes too nice. My sister just asked - I take that back, she didn’t ask, she said, “I’ma need to use your car next weekend to take R to New York to be with his dad for the summer”. I’ll probably let her b/c I’m the big sis and her car is a lemon and she just moved so is probably low on cash. I need to learn to say NO!!!!!!!

I kinda hope the baby doesn’t come until like Sunday because I am soooo enjoying being in the house by myself while everyone is gone during the day. Well…I have been running a lot of errands but I plan on staying in the house tomorrow and just loafing around!

That’s about all that going on in my world. I did want to thank all of you that’s left messages of well wishes and greetings. I intended to email or reply to your comments from the last post but got all lazy!!!! I am emotional ordinarily so you know right about now every kind word from you guys is even more appreciated!

I’ll keep you posted about the baby.

  6. Good lord girl - your little sweetie is almost here, hehehe. Good Luck and I cant wait to hear the details! I am praying for you and the family!

The cell phone bit would have pissed me off too - that was straight up disrespectful of her to do and then for her not to understand your husbands point was rediculous!

  7. I was 9 days voerdue with my son. I drank raspberry leaf tea and castor oil and went in to labor 2 days later. I also walked and walked and walked some more. I did lots of lunges too.

It’ll be here before you know it.

Try to be patient cause babies are much easier to deal with in than out. :)
