NOT a beauty shop experience
I normally have two girlfriends come to my house to do my hair. They are licensed beauticians and really set up my kitchen (literally my kitchen, not my hair:-) like a salon with all of their equipment. I can’t really go to commercial shops b/c of my religion and the chance that men may roll up in there and see me without my hijab. Anyway, this weekend both girls were unavailable so I asked my sister to come over and give me a touch-up, etc. She’s not a professional but does hair (like many sistas can).
You know what they say about doing business with family? First, she didn’t want to base my scalp. She said my hair was too long and thick…and then says she normally doesn’t base hers. Whatever! So she huffed and puffed but did it. Then she did a piss-poor job of washing my hair. Now this is the best part of the experience! Can you believe that I wound up washing, conditioning, and rinsing my hair? Then, I had to blow dry it and style it! Keep in mind I have a newborn. She spent this time on my phone! When she (read I) was done, I handed her $20, mainly b/c I knew she probably needed gas money. She looked at me like I was crazy! So, I just told her that the $20 also included a $10 tip:) Negress puhleeeeze!

lol! Going to professionals is much better at least there you get your money’s worth or can complain if you don’t. Are there any hair salons in MD or even VA that cater to Muslim women?

Sister or no sister, I would have made her bounce. Ain’t no way I’mma let you come to my home to do my hair and you half do it and I end up doing the rest.

I don’t blame you. I am looking for someone to make housecalls. I’d love to do it in the privacy of my home. Good help is really hard to find.
