Day to Day

A few things going on…

I went through Mc.do.nald’s drive-thru for a cup of coffee (which has just been voted best in the country btw) and asked for a medium decaf with 2 creams and 2 equals (usually carry own Splen.da but forgot). Anyway, I pick up my coffee but they don’t hand me a stirrer or my cream/equals. I get that pleasantly annoyed look on my face and the guy’s looking at me like I’m crazy! I ask for my condiments and he says, “oh, ma’am we’ve already mixed them in for you…have a great day”. What???!!! Mickey Ds is steppin’ up their game! The only problem I have with this improved service is what about when I ask for 4 creams and 5 equals just to stash for when I’m home, etc????

I lost a “friend”…I considered this person a close acquaintance anyway. Here’s what happended. We were discussing that horrible pizza guy who kidnapped and held captive the two young boys (one for 4 years). Afterward, I said “I hope he gets killed in prison”, she asks, “why do you say that?”. I replied, “no I don’t want him to get killed, just hurt a little”. She says, “hmm, well my phone’s about to go out so bye”.

As soon as the words had come out of my mouth, I realized my mistake. First, she is currently, as we speak, going through something similar with her brother who is in prison for a horrible crime against a child and her grandmother. He’s been in prison about 6 years and may not ever see the outside world again (and you know it was bad when homicide wasn’t involved). Anyway, she and her family have been rallying for him b/c he’s being targeted inside by COs and other prisoners. You know, beat-up, threatened, etc. b/c the victims are from that area I guess. Whenever she discussed this situation, I just nod or try to support HER since she’s all broken up about it. Inside, I think about his victims. Anyway, I must have touched a nerve.

Ultimately my mistake was being judgemental, I should have said, “may God give him what he deserves”. Anyway, I left her a message a couple days later apologizing if she took it personally and saying that I was talking about that man only…which I’m sure she knows. Anyway, she hasn’t responded and it’s been about 2 weeks. We’ve been cool for less than 2 years so I’ll be ok.

My question: is she overeacting or am I diminishing the situation. I mean, I called and emailed her!!!

  1. You probably hit a nerve but you did call and apologize which is good. I don’t think she’s over reacting nor do I think your diminishing the situation. You’re coming from two different places on this issue. Many of us wish harm to people who abuse children however her family member who she clearly loves is an abuser is now being harmed and I’m sure she’s feeling that societal pressure to maybe disown her brother because of his crime.
