Who’s the Bama Now???

For the 8+ years I’ve been married, my husband never tires of the chance to refer to me as a “New York Bama”. Since he is from DC, he figures DC is up on it all and NY’ers have no real style, street smarts, etc. He really had better ask somebody LOL!! I let him amuse himself and just let actions speak louder than words. However, yesterday I could not resist.

He took my son to the mall to buy him a few things. When I came home, I saw a bunch of bags. Masha’Allah, hubby got J some long johns, boots, a new coat, socks, etc. As my husband was showing me the stuff, 6 year-old J says, “mommy, he bought it all over again”. I’m like, “what are you talking about”? After a bunch of back and forth, the story comes out.

Do y’all not know that my husband left the bags sitting unattended in a shoe store, and according to him, turned his back for a second to look at some shoes and the bags were gone????? Not only did some dudes take the bags, my husband turns around and purchases EVERYTHING ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! New Timb.alands, a new COAT??? Does he not realize that we are in a RECESSION LOL!!! I mean of course the rizq (sustenance) is from Allah but you still gotta be responsible.

I had to point out to him, YOU GOT HERBED Mr. I’m From DC and This is How We Get Down Uh Huh, only a BAMA would go a mall in the middle of the christmas season and leave 6 bags sitting in the middle of a store and leisurely browse for shoes and THEN feel so embarrased that you re-purchase everything to make yourself believe maybe it didn’t really happen at all. Yeah, whateva…..

He said, “what was I supposed to do, J needs this stuff”. Well, for one - around this time of year, don’t leave your bags out of your sight. I mean, that’s so 101. See but I’m only from New York right (**side eye**) I still luh you though…even with your green and bama-ish tendencies.

It may be mostly clean, but…

My 6 year-old spent the weekend with a friend of mine and her family. He is friends with her son. My son rarely spends the night out unless it’s with my sister. I am always nervous to find out what family laundry my son aired while away from the nest.

J is a talker, a ponderer and an all around cool kid to be around. People love spending time with him cause you never know what will come out of his mouth. Here’s a snapshot of what my friend said was imparted by the wise sage:

- (while getting in her car) “Wow, usually when I go in other people’s car it’s sparkling!”

- (when we arrived on Friday, they met us at the car…we are all walking to the house) ” Do y’all have the internet so we won’t be bored? My cousins spent the night yesterdayand their internet is broke so they hogged mine”.

She said he just talks about everything…I’m not suprised.

Her father recently passed away (inna lilahi wa inna alaye rajioon) and he lived with her family. My son knew him as he was a teacher at is school last year. At 6, this is the 1st time he has experienced the death of someone he knew. We will have to talk about it soon. He is preoccupied with him. For instance, this morning as I was brushing his hair, he says, “Mommy, Dawud had a brush”. To myself I’m thinking, and? but I say, “oh yeah?”. He replies, “yeah, it was 2-sided, we saw it in his room. We played in his room but we weren’t allowed to sleep in there”.

Anyway my son was cool. He was respectful and had a great time away from home this weekend….not more than me what are you gonna do? LOL
